LOCAL STORIES, CONSIDERED

The practical guide to Danbury’s first Oktoberfest at Hatters Park.

The fast plan

Danbury’s first Oktoberfest runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 17, at Hatters Park. Admission is free. If the commemorative stein matters to you, arrive early: the city says the first 50 guests receive one.

The other fixed time is 2 p.m., when the stein-holding contest begins. Music, food and games are scheduled throughout the afternoon.

What is free—and what is not

Entry is free, but food and beverages are not. Danbury Recreation says Twins BBQ will sell a mix of German and American food, while Tapville Mobile Taproom will sell beer and additional beverages.

Commemorative steins will also be available to purchase after the first 50 complimentary steins are claimed. The organizer has not published menu prices or payment details, so arrive prepared for those particulars to be decided on site.

Come for the contest—or take the easier route

For the liveliest stretch, plan around the 2 p.m. contest. For a simpler family visit, arriving near noon gives you more time to find your bearings, order food and enjoy the park before the contest crowd settles in.

The city describes the afternoon as family fun with games and music. It is also an event where alcohol will be sold, so choose the part of the afternoon that best fits your group.

Do not assume the parking plan

The official event listing identifies Hatters Park at 7 E. Hayestown Road, but it does not publish an event-specific parking or shuttle plan. Allow extra arrival time and follow temporary signs or staff directions rather than relying on parking instructions from an unrelated park event.

The listing also does not provide event-specific accessibility details. If accessible parking, paths or seating will determine whether the outing works for you, confirm directly with Danbury Recreation before leaving.

Check once more before heading out

As of October 11, the city’s event page does not state a rain date or cancellation procedure. Check the official listing on the morning of the event, particularly if the forecast is uncertain.

The first-50 stein offer is limited, not guaranteed to everyone who arrives early. The useful strategy is simple: come close to noon for the best chance at the giveaway, or arrive later with the 2 p.m. contest as your anchor.

The short version

Saturday, October 17. Noon to 4 p.m. Free admission at Hatters Park. Food and drinks cost extra. The first 50 guests receive a commemorative stein, and the stein-holding contest starts at 2 p.m.
